Day 15 at Shepherd. I have asked Jan to tell me what to type tonight. She says I am awake and alert. I am getting lots of therapy and it is hard and I especially do not like thinking. I hate spam and ensure. I cry everytime you (me/David) come into the room. But I think I will be home soon. And that is all. Oh yea, I am tired of getting shots in my stomach.
She is doing great! She is ambulating more, eating better but does tell me everyday she wants to go home.
Do not forget why she is here. We have an obligation to try and keep this from happening to anyone else that likely would not have as good of an outcome that Jan is having.

So good to hear an update from Jan! I can empathize re: the stomach shots. Those anticoagulant shots SUCK (I've had them). I know I'm a complete stranger, but I feel blessed that you've kept this blog and allowed me, and other strangers, to get to know you. Should you ever make it to the Colorado Denver area, I'd love to show you some of what our beautiful state has to offer- both on and off a bicycle.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I, too, was hit by a car. A hit and run in March. I wanted you to know that I'm back on a bicycle (friends helped me get it), and this past Saturday, I rode in the Triple Bypass- a grueling 120 miles over the Rockies over 3 mountain passes, reaching 12000 ft. elevation, and over 10K feet vertical gain. In spite of my neck injury, I finished! Not only that, but I took over 2 hours off of my riding time from the event last year!
Through it all, I was thinking of Jan, of Nancy Fish (a courageous rider who lost her battle with cancer in January), and all others who have faced adversity and decided to continue to truly live life.
Jan & David, I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I would very much like meeting you one day... perhaps going for a ride together (And Jan, if you prefer to avoid roads, we have TONS of bicycle paths, both in the mountains and out of the mountains).
Kindest Regards,
Belinda
Jan, I would sing you Monty Python's wonderful Spam song if it would make you feel better. So good to hear from you. Spam is indeed horrid. I would cry too, and don't think any less of you for it. You're getting through this, and I admire that.
ReplyDeleteDavid, thanks for letting Jan speak to us. I don't forget that you too have suffered terribly. You are sounding so much better in these recent posts, and that makes me glad. I can't even think of going through what you went through, too horrifying. I wear my helmet each time I bike now, hat head be damned, I don't want my husband to ever wonder if I'll wake from a coma, and helmets can help with that. Jan's helmet probably saved her from even worse injury.
I heard a PSA on the radio today about the 3 foot law. It was good to hear it.
